Whistler Amateur Photography Contest

Whistler Amateur Photography Contest

The end of winter is a chance for creatives to gather their work. This Spring, on March 30th, RMU and Salomon Freeski teamed up to host their first-ever amateur photography contest at RMU Whistler. And let me tell you, it was a huge success!

RMU and Salomon BC Freeski collaborated, bringing together friends and new faces from the community. The response was amazing, showing immense support for these local creatives. It was inspiring to see the passion and talent of many photographers as they shared their unique perspective on the mountains.

The contest was open to all amateur photographers from the Sea To Sky corridor. Entries were 2 - 4 minute slideshows showcasing photography work from the winter season following the theme " Powder Hunter ". Submissions were judged on originality, creativity, cinematography, music and adaptation of the theme.

Not only did we get to enjoy some breathtaking photo slideshows, but we also managed to raise over $1200 for Whistler Search and Rescue (SAR). We did this through various means, like selling raffle tickets and hats, and thanks to the generosity of Pemberton Brewing Co., who donated a karma keg to support the cause. Talk about a win-win situation!

A huge shoutout goes to Robert Greso (@captured_by_robert) for winning the first-place prize, which included an awesome pair of skis. Robert's photography captured the essence of freedom, with moody and atmospheric shots of backcountry riders that conveyed a range of emotions in just a few frames. Another round of applause for Wayne "Wango" Flann (@whistlerwango), who secured second place and won a brand-new RMU Core Pack 25L. Wayne, a long-time local and patroller, showcased a story of safety and excitement in the day-to-day activities of a Whistler patroller through his photography slideshow.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without our incredible judging panel consisting of photographer John Entwistle (@entwistlephoto), skier Mark Abma (@markabma), SBC magazine editor Chris German (@c.dangerman_), and photographer Craig Barker (@craigbarkerphoto). We truly appreciate your keen eyes and expertise in selecting the winners.
