RMU Partakes in its First Oktoberfest: By Emily Booth

Tis the season for cooler days, colorful leaves — and seasonal beers, of course. The town of Breckenridge kicked off this year’s Fall season with their 23rd Oktoberfest, while RMU got to partake in their first. And what a better place to celebrate the famed German festival than RMU’s very own beer garden? Oops, we meant, Biergarten. We kicked the weekend off with a tap-takeover featuring two of Germany’s most famous breweries, Bayreuther and Maisel's Weisse. Both breweries hail from the very region Oktoberfest originated, giving patrons the opportunity to taste a few of the most authentic German beers in town. If a taste wasn’t enough, we offered 2.5 liter glass boots as a vessel of choice too. Hey, Oktoberfest only...

Behind the Bar: Charlie MacCrone

Behind the Bartender:  Charlie MacCrone by Emily Booth This week, RMU would like to take a minute and highlight one of our most decorated bartenders, Charlie MacCrone.  Odds are, if you live in Breckenridge, you’ve had the pleasure of letting Charlie pour you his latest and favorite cocktail.  It’s probably been accompanied by a loud, but hospitable ‘hello,’ and a ‘decent’ joke or two. Whether he’s sporting leather pants on the 4th of July, or his go-to, vintage Budweiser sweater, he can’t be missed. And if his boisterous personality isn’t enough to lure you in for one or two drinks, perhaps his stories are. Hailing from the panhandle region of Florida, Charlie’s first experience with adventure was via skydiving. Given...

Project North Shore: RMU’s surf-inspired asymmetrical ski enters prototype phase

Project: North Shore from Freeskier Magazine on Vimeo. Earlier this summer, Rocky Mountain Underground introduced us to its latest endeavor—Project: North Shore, a surf-inspired ski-shaping odyssey. The Breckenridge-based company is currently in the prototyping phase of designing a powder ski with surfboard roots, which will be for sale exclusively through evo and REI this fall season. Utilizing inspiration from a surf trip to Baja, Mexico and influence from the crew at Shaper Studios in San Diego, California, RMU team athletes Ethan Swadburg and Ben Smith return back to Colorado with newfound motivation to create a ski unlike anything Rocky Mountain Underground has shaped before. Watch as the team form these asymmetrical twigs with a custom “surf channel” meant to provide an extra bit of float and enhance...

Artist Behind the RMU Rippah 2.0 Graphics

P: Jessie Unruh  Cameron Barrie, RMU General Manager, is a Colorado Native that has always thrived in the outdoors. She started a painting business, The Backwoods Studio, creating art on animal skulls. As a fly fishing guide for Breckenridge Outfitters and the manager at RMU, she spends her spare time fishing, hunting and painting. P: Jessie Unruh So when RMU needed a new graphic for the Rippah, they looked to their own artist and her recent paintings. "Once I finished painting the skull, I brought it into the shop for display and the first day on the wall, Mike decided to turn it into a graphic," said Cameron. When she was asked what inspired the painting, she said ironically, this is one...
