RMU Partakes in its First Oktoberfest: By Emily Booth

Tis the season for cooler days, colorful leaves — and seasonal beers, of course. The town of Breckenridge kicked off this year’s Fall season with their 23rd Oktoberfest, while RMU got to partake in their first. And what a better place to celebrate the famed German festival than RMU’s very own beer garden? Oops, we meant, Biergarten.

We kicked the weekend off with a tap-takeover featuring two of Germany’s most famous breweries, Bayreuther and Maisel's Weisse. Both breweries hail from the very region Oktoberfest originated, giving patrons the opportunity to taste a few of the most authentic German beers in town. If a taste wasn’t enough, we offered 2.5 liter glass boots as a vessel of choice too. Hey, Oktoberfest only comes around once a year.

Friday night set the tone, as local DJ, Tropical Waffle, spun house music and dance beats in the beer garden. He themed his set with colorful Hawaiian leis for the crowd, and it made for one of the best dance parties we’ve thrown yet.

Saturday night we switched the pace with some bluegrass, and welcomed Grassfed, out of Kansas City. The five-piece string band rocked the beer garden, ending the final night of the festival on a perfect note.

We finally wound things down Sunday, as we enjoyed some fall, patio weather, and the last of the German beer. While we were sad to see the weekend go, our first Oktoberfest was both a success and a blast! We’re already looking forward to joining the town again next year for one of the best festivals in Colorado.
